TIFF and NYFF Announce Festival Lineups

Tiff lineup
Festival season is upon us, and the awards race has truly begun.

With Cannes said and done and the Venice Biennalle readying to open its waterways to excited film fans around the world at the end of the month, it truly feels like Festival season is upon us, and the awards race has truly begun. Elsewhere, the New York Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival have also released exciting lineups for their respective festivals, with London soon to follow after announcing Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn as their Opening Gala film.

For those who have the privilege of visiting the major European festivals, it can sometimes look from the outside that NYFF and TIFF are simply catching the leftovers—Justine Triet’s Palme winner Anatomy of A Fall and Hirokazu Koreeda’s Queer Palm winner Monster will both feature at Toronto this year, while NYFF is hosting the US premieres of The Zone of Interest, Priscilla, May December, and more—but for many others, this is their first glimpse into the movies that will shape the coming year’s awards landscape.

That’s not to say that the two regional festivals have nothing new to offer. After all, TIFF is being opened by none other than The Boy and The Heron, the über anticipated return to the screen by animation wizard Hayao Miyazaki. Craig Gillespie’s Dumb Money (starring Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Shailene Woodley) will also hold its world premiere at the festival, as will Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins David Yates’ Pain Hustlers, Lukas Moodyson’s Together 99 and more.

NYFF will give audiences a chance to catch many of the films they weren’t able to se at Venice and Cannes, including Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s Evil Does Not Exist, Michael Mann’s Ferrari, and Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera, among others. The Big Apple will also be host to Andrew Haigh’s exciting new feature All of Us Strangers and two new films from prolific South-Korean darling Hong Sangsoo In Our Day and In Water.

Scroll on for the full lineups from both festivals…
