During the Venice Film Festival, Cartier and A Rabbit’s Foot hosted the likes of Jacob Elordi and Sofia Coppola for an intimate dinner at the Gritti Palace.
An evening at the Gritti Palace is Venetian heritage. Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Peggy Guggenheim, Ernest Hemingway, and more have spent spirited evenings in the Club Del Doge or the Bar Longhi—and always in good company.
This year, our editor-in-chief Charles Finch arrived with a similar idea in mind. In partnership with Cartier, last night saw a glittering gathering of the most brilliant filmmakers and actors, together for a private, but memorable, dinner and after-party.
There could be no better maison to share the evening with: Cartier has had a profound impact on cinema both on-screen and on the red carpet; worn and adored by some of our most idolised actors and actresses. They are also the main partner of the Venice Film Festival, and we had printed a special edition of our 12th issue with Gloria Swanson on the cover adorned in her favourite Cartier bracelet—circulated around the event.
Jacob Elordi, who is in the lead role for Frankenstein, was present with his mother, Melissa. Filmmaker Sofia Coppola was also joined by her legendary father, Francis Ford Coppola, as well as a starry mingling of guests who have films in competition: Riley Keough, Julian Schnabel, Alicia Silverstone (who described her love for Ibsen’s theatre), Mona Fastvold, and the president of the jury Alexander Payne. With everyone seated, Charles and Cartier’s SVP Chief Marketing Officer Arnaud Carrez raised a toast to the Craft of Cinema.

In his speech, Charles argued against the use of AI in the arts, and paid tribute to Cartier’s devotion to the cinematic medium—as well as those of the great artists seated in the room. Arnaud described the connection between the Venice Film Festival and the maison as a part of theirs and A Rabbit’s Foot’s shared values. Also in attendance were the A Rabbit’s Foot team, including Creative Director Fatima Khan, Deputy Editor Chris Cotonou, Director of Commercial Partnerships Lauren Southcott, Digital Editor Kitty Grady and Features Writer Luke Georgiades.
Guests were later led to a private after-party on the Gritti Palace’s rooftop. The festivities continued into the night—and on the dance floor. Actor Rashida Jones caught up with Sofia Coppola, while Gemma Chan and George Mackay mingled with other guests by the terrace. The evening unfolded with sublime views over Venice and the Basilica Santa Maria Della Salute: an almost cinematic backdrop for an unforgettable night with Charles Finch’s A Rabbit’s Foot and Cartier in celebration of the Craft of Cinema.

Throughout the event, a limited edition of A Rabbit’s Foot’s anticipated 12th issue: “Sanctuary” was available for guests to pick up and discover. The cover displays Hollywood icon Gloria Swanson (a Cartier devotee) wearing her most treasured Cartier bracelet in a profound, rarely-seen candid photograph.
A number of the guests arrived wearing their favourite Cartier pieces—including Jacob Elordi, who struck a chic look with his Juste un Clou necklace, Tank watch and Maillon ring. Sofia Coppola came in her Grain de Café earrings, Panthère bracelet, and Cartier Collection Ring. Riley Keough’s Réflection necklace and Baignoire watch added further elegance, while Gemma Chan wore a dazzling Cartier Collection necklace and Maillon ring.
