An experimental snapshot of an individual’s experience living with a degenerative blindness. Picturing Wonderland explores Maud Rowell’s fascinating relationship with the colours of the world around her, as well as the use of the medium of analogue photography as a form of documentation and hobby.

Film Genesis: Picturing Wonderland reflects a collaboration between the filmmakers and Maud Rowell. Following a series of conversations, we collectively devised a visual language to partner the monologue provided by Maud, a wonderfully written and powerful piece of prose detailing her experience with blindness, colour and photography. Narrated by Maud herself, the film was shot on 16mm colour film by cinematographer Finn Boxer, incorporates hand crafted analogue animation techniques by Ana Projects, experimental lighting design by Satu Streatfield and a vivid original score by Patrick Fitzgerald.
