Film Genesis: My deep admiration towards South American music served as a significant driving force for this short. I believe the music of the region carries its history within its rhythms and lyrics, acting as a powerful voice for the myriad experiences of its people – their struggles, joys, and transformations. For this film, I was particularly interested in exploring the dialogue between the timeless energy of salsa and the contemporary dominance of reggaeton. It felt crucial to bring these two sonic worlds together, reflecting a pivotal moment of cultural evolution that often goes unnoticed. The shift in popular music isn’t just about a change in beat; it mirrors a broader transformation in society, where genres once associated with marginalized communities now hold mainstream sway. This sonic tapestry was intended not just to set a mood, but to subtly underscore the film’s themes of societal change and the enduring power of cultural expression.
